Our Allure-featured Got Grits? set features a set of an oil cleanser and charcoal mask with fruit acids to help you clear out those dreadful under-your-skin clogs that sometimes erupt into painful pimples, without harsh extractions.
Many of our customers who have tried this set find that those clogs (which the skincare community calls "grits") emerge in the course of using this set - leaving you with soft, smooth and unclogged skin! These clogs are called "grits" because they feel like hard little grits on your fingers when they emerge.
While not everyone gets grits, most people notice an improvement in skin clarity and smaller-looking pores as a result of using this set!
Set Includes: Vacuum Cleansing Oil (30ml), Bethany Charcoal Mask (10ml), a routine card and a Sabbatical Beauty pouch. Get Gritty!
Unclogs skin without painful extraction
Regulates oil production
Smoother, clearer skin
Pores appear smaller
Deep cleansing & detoxifying
Instructions:
Beginning with a dry face, apply a thin layer of Vacuum Cleansing Oil to your skin. Lightly massage, then rinse off with warm water. Apply a layer of Bethany Charcoal Mask and leave on for 20-30 minutes, or until it dries. Rinse off with warm water and gently pat your face dry. Apply another layer of Vacuum Cleansing Oil onto your skin and massage lightly. Leave on your face for 10 minutes, then massage again. At this point, many people feel "grits", or the oil clogs, leaving the skin. (Note: Not everyone gets "grits," but your oil clogs will leave through this technique.) Rinse off, and enjoy smooth, soft skin! Follow with the rest of your routine. Use sunscreen if using this product. Ingredients: Vacuum Cleansing Oil: Rice Bran Oil, Polysorbate 80, Castor Oil, Hazelnut Oil. This set specifically is a solid B for me. When I first tried the cleansing oil, it was just super thick and felt like it pulled on my skin when I was using it. Half a pea sized amount per the instructions definitely was not enough, so I went through the travel size pretty quickly. The bottle is also a simple screw cap, so it took time for the oil to come out and also hard to control the amount used. I also didn't get as much grit, if at all, compared to other Japanese-brand oil cleansers I used. While I didn't get much grit, I do feel like using the oil cleanser day and night with the goat milk cleanser has improved my skin.
I do like the charcoal mask - it's not a holy grail, but a solid charcoal mask.
Bottom Line for me - if you're going to try the oil cleanser, just try the full sized bottle.

Love this set!
I found SB by chance on Instagram and followed because I wanted to support Asian, women-owned, and small businesses, and that the owner is unapologetic about her opinions and is transparent about her business practices is a bonus! My skin is quite sensitive and I have to be extra careful when I try new skincare products. I try to go as clean as I can and spent quite a bit on Credo last year, so I wasn't really looking to buy anything. But I was intrigued by this Got Grits set, and thought maybe it might also help my tween who's on the cusp of puberty.
The first time I tried both products, my skin reacted quite badly-- it stung when I first applied the mask, and when I washed it off, I found red bumps on the areas where I applied the mask. Needless to say I was really disappointed, because the set isn't cheap! But I gave it a second try a couple of weeks later, and am now hooked on the results! My skin is super smooth afterward, and I haven't had any terrible reactions since that first time.
I really like both products on their own and together. The VCO washes off surprising easily and does not leave any oily or tacky residue. I imagine it'd be a gentle eye makeup remover! I've found the best method to wash off BCM is in the shower, where I can also exfoliate my décolleté area with the diluted mask that was being washed off. I still have more than half of the VCO but will be placing an order of the full-sized BCM soon!
I purchased The GOT GRITS? for myself first. Suffering from blackheads and large pores on my nose and chin, I thought I’d give this a try. After using for one month, I purchased four more GOT GRITS? for the women-children in my life. While the process may feel consuming (takes me about 1.5 hours to do it all (bear in mind I’m a slow reader too!), I can’t get enough of how wonderful my skin feels for days on end. The month’s experience has taught me what I need to share with my women-children who have extremely busy lives. I adore setting aside time each Sunday or Monday for this special treat for myself. You will too!
I just used my set for the first time and I’m totally in love. It really prepped my skin for my serums to penetrate more. I could feel it with every step. Intensely clean feeling! Is it odd if I feel like I look younger after one use?! Looking forward to continuing my skincare journey with Sabbatical Beauty products.

When I say that I have found my Holy Grail... I have tried several products for my oily, pore laden skin and nothing has worked as well as Got Grits to get my pores under control. I’m a Sabbatical Beauty and I’m never looking back!
Got Grits definitely Gets Grits! This is probably my fav mask. At first I thought oh I don’t have blackheads and clogged pores but uh yea I did lol. This cleaned my face like nothing else. I was shocked by the amount of Grits that came out of my face. It has helped my pores to become smaller and my face is so much softer and smooth afterwards. Love Got Grits and it is definitely a staple for me
First of all.. OMG! I had some idea about its effectiveness from other reviews, both from this site here and also on Facebook's many photos but seriously! I was completely blown away! I always thought I had pretty okay skin with minimal clogs and the occasional breakout here and there and just some enlarged pores around my nose area, but after using this set that I got as a sample, the grits that came out showed me how wrong I was!! The following pictures were taken because I was so amazed at its effectiveness and also I wanted a keepsake of the gross satisfaction I had from seeing all of the grits just busting out of my face!
The mask sucked out most of it, which you can see in the MANY white dots on the mask, so when I finally got to using the rose balm for the last step of this set I only managed to get 2 grits. Wow I am super excited to try this on my hubby and I am so telling my friends about it! Going to send the ugly photos to them cause its that's good! My dr pimple popper heart is so full just looking at them grits.
I love the Got Grits? mask set. I've used it once a week/once very two weeks since I first got it in mid-April (2018), and I definitely have noticed that my pores, especially on my nose which is my problem area, are smaller, cleaner, and calmer. I usually have big pores there, full of sebaceous filaments that turn into "grits" that I used to scratch off with my fingernails (I know, eww). The effect of the mask set was immediately noticeable the first time I used it. Not a lot of grits actually came out when I massaged my face with the Rose Balm, but by the end I could see the softened grits at the surface of the pores. I then washed my face with a foaming cleanser and used a cotton ball soaked in an AHA/BHA toner to wipe off the remaining grits. I had never seen the pores on my nose that clean without getting a professional facial or using a blackhead extractor tool! (which is very hard on my skin and causes peeling a few days after I use the tool, and usually the skin on my nose is red and swollen because it's a violent procedure to extract blackheads that way). I will admit that for more stubborn grits, after toning, I've sometimes squeezed them out gently with my fingers; however, they popped out so easily that I didn't damage my skin at all.
My forehead has also looked a lot smoother, the lines there less noticeable, and the skin tone itself more even.
In terms of scent, I LOVE the smell of the Rose Balm. I'm normally sensitive to the chemicals in scents, but this is so natural that it feels luxurious and calming.
The whole process takes a while because of the waiting time for both the mask and the balm, but it's worth it when it's both effective and so appealing to the senses. On the days when I don't have an extra 30 minutes for the Bethany charcoal mask, I will just mask and massage with the Rose Balm. I think that this technique has made my pores less noticeable overall.
I find about Sabbatical Beauty trying to get rid once and for all of my nose blackheads, this set was one of the recommendations so I decided to give it a try. I have only use it 3 times, because it's suppose to be a once a week treatment, especially for sensitive skins like mine, and so far it has helped. I didn't got the "grits" but I could tell that my skin was feeling cleaner after following all the process. I believe that a combination of this set, along with Rose Foaming cleanser and Asian Power House and Marine serums are helping my skin a lot, but slowly, so be patient.
This set is so amazing! While I've only gotten a few grits so far, I'm still absolutely in love with it! The sample size of the Rose Cleansing Balm is huge and more than enough to get the job done. You don't need much of either product and afterwards my skin always feels tighter and cleaner, without feeling stripped or over-dried.
I normally reserve my "grits" praise for the edible kind, being a Southern Gal. However,I have to say that this combination of the Rose Balm and the Bethany Mask is in a category by itself. I used it twice on my very stubborn nose and 5 days later i have no blackheads whatsoever.
This set is a welcome addition to my skin care routine. My skin tone was more even afterward, and it feels great getting all that gunk out of my pores! Also, a little goes a looong way with both of these products.
I’ve been plagued with blackheads for my entire life! No amount of exfoliation/steaming/pore-strip voodoo has ever worked at actually removing them until now.
It was 3-4 uses of the Got Grits set before I actually “got grits” but oh man was it worth it to see and feel these tiny specs! I get them everytime I use the set now, it’s SO satisfying! I will also recommend using this in conjunction with your choice of beauty water for a quick wipe down after you do the final rose balm cleanse. I use this set 2-3 times a week with VCCO and rose foaming cleanser as a daily double cleanse, my skin has never been better!
This set maybe didn't get me to the point of actually feeling "grits" come out of my skin, but as someone who has been covering up blackheads and trying to keep my skin clear since puberty, this mask set definitely made me feel pampered and clean! The Rose Balm Cleanser has a lovely scent and luxurious texture, which gave all three steps that relaxed-at-the-spa atmosphere. I was somewhat apprehensive about the Bethany Charcoal Mask as it is PITCH black, and I was worried would stain my skin or get ingrained in my pores - how could something be so dark and not leave a mark? My concerns were totally unnecessary, it came right off and didn't stain at all! The follow-up short mask with the Rose Balm was soothing, and then I completed the routine by doing a final cleanse with the SB Goat Milk & Rice Foaming Cleanser and my pores looked awesome! Mask routines are time-consuming but totally worth it, I am so glad I gave this set a shot.
I love this set. The rose balm is so calming, then the charcoal mask really gets rid of impurities. I did not get "grits" per se but whenever I use it (about once a week now), my pores are amazingly cleaned out and tightened. My skin feels so very clean and soft after using it. Feels just like after getting a professional facial.
Let me tell you something right now: I will never use another product for the rest of my life. My skin has NEVER looked as good as it does right now. I'm convinced it looks better than when I was born. No lie.
My once a month without fail hormonal acne scars fade quickly and the scent of the rose balm is excellent. My skin is rather clear and the pimples I do get are 1 or 2 that come and go. It may be from this set or may be from the general sense of calm I feel knowing that I'm taking care of myself and using products that nourish my skin instead of trying to shred acne away.
This set specifically is a solid B for me. When I first tried the cleansing oil, it was just super thick and felt like it pulled on my skin when I was using it. I do like the charcoal mask - it's not a holy grail, but a solid charcoal mask.
Bottom Line for me - if you're going to try the oil cleanser, just try the full sized bottle.
